What is the best mattress brand?

There isn't one best brand for everyone. Tempur-Pedic is known for pressure relief and motion isolation, Stearns & Foster for handcrafted luxury, Sealy Posturepedic for targeted support, Spring Air for back support and copper cooling, and Nectar and Casper for value and simple choices. The best mattress is the one that keeps your spine aligned and comfortable in your sleep position, which is why we encourage trying several side by side.

Should I get a firm or soft mattress?

Side sleepers usually need softer to medium surfaces to cushion shoulders and hips. Back sleepers often prefer medium to firm. Stomach sleepers generally need firmer support to keep the hips from sinking. Heavier sleepers may want more support; lighter sleepers often enjoy softer feels.

Memory foam, hybrid or innerspring: which is better?

Memory foam contours closely and absorbs motion. Hybrids pair foam with coils for bounce, airflow and edge support. Innersprings feel traditional and buoyant. If you sleep hot or want an easier time changing positions, start with a hybrid or innerspring.

How long does a mattress last?

Many mattresses last about 7 to 10 years, depending on materials, body weight and care. Replace yours if you wake up stiff, see sagging or lumps, or sleep better away from home.

How long should I test a mattress in the store?

Plan on 10 to 15 minutes on your top choices. Lie in your usual sleep position, and if you share a bed, try it together.
